Fruits of the Spirit - Gal. 5:22

Lutheran Joy

My Lutheran joy is something I experienced as a youth. I don’t remember what grade I was in. My mom was the one who encourage me to go to Church. The Church was located within walking distance from my house.

My Lutheran experience was positive.

Hello! My name is Stephen Boyd. I am from Baton Rouge, Louisiana by way of Chicago, Illinois. I would like to share my Lutheran memories and some special videos that you need to watch. My Lutheran experience served as a religious foundation for me when I was young. Since my College days I have come to embrace God and Jesus in a whole new way.

Wait until you watch the special videos. Then you will understand what I mean. The reason why I share my Lutheran memories is because I don’t want to forget my religious roots. My roots helped me believe in God and Jesus. Here are some of the things I remember as a Lutheran.

The Lutheran Church I attended was a Black congregation and the Pastor was White. The Lutheran Church I attended was located on the Southside of Chicago in the South Shore community. The name of the Church was St. Thomas Lutheran Church. My Lutheran experience was the first time I learned about God and Jesus.

I remember the feeling of tranquility when entering the Church. I remember eating the bread and wine called Communion. I remember the feeling of my sins being forgiven and I was redeem. I remember being an altar boy. In the Lutheran Church they are called Acolyte. Acolyte mean follower of Christ. Acolyte also mean helper or Assistant. They help or Assit the Pastor in worship.

I remember the feeling of worship as we sang hymns to God. I remember singing from the hymnal. The hymnal is a collection of songs. I remember reciting The Lord’s Prayer. The Lord’s Prayer is what Jesus taught his disciples to pray. In reality, it’s the Disciples Prayer. (Hint) I remember the feeling of joy when the Pastor would say, He is Risen and the Congregation would say He is Risen in deed. This was during the Easter service.

I remember the stain glass windows with the art work depicting Jesus. I remember the fellowship hall where we would gather for pastries and coffee. I remember the beautiful banners that read Hallelujah and Hosanna. Hallelujah mean God be praised. Hosanna is used to express adoration, praise or joy. I remember Good Friday service when the Church was dark to symbolize Jesus’s death.

I remember Palm Sunday service when the Pastor gave everyone palm branches. Palm Sunday is the Sunday before Easter, when the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem is celebrated in many Christian churches by processions in which palm fronds are carried. I remember taking a trip on a retreat.

One of the things I experience on the retreat was we all sat in a circle and people took turns interpeting scriptures. But wait a minute, I have a New Joy to share. Click the link below that read New Joy, to watch the special videos. The special videos express the New Joy I have found.
